Five Faves 8-17-18 — Five things I’ve been consuming or enjoying this week.
TinyBeans.
The first child of the next generation of the Holm family was born a couple weeks ago! TinyBeans allows the new parents, my cousin and his wife, to pots photos in one place and then everyone who has requested updates is notified via e-mail/app. I enjoy the daily emails and it seems like an easy way for the new parents to update multiple people at once.

An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth, by Chris Hadfield.
Hadfield is a great writer and does a great job sharing space life with those relegated to life on earth. He shares lessons he has learned from being an astronaut that are sometimes “backwards.” For example, his advice is to always sweat the small stuff (i.e., be overprepared). It’s also been fun keeping in mind that my brother just joined the Air Force and loves Chris Hadfield.
Cork Renew.
I’ve had my Birkenstocks for a couple years and I wear them all the time. They are in relatively good shape, but resealing the cork can extend the life of my Birks dramatically. This stuff is less than $7 and is easy to apply.
Pod Save America.
Their tagline is, “A political podcast for people not yet ready to give up or go insane.” I try to limit the amount of political information I take in, but I do think it’s important to be informed, so I use this twice-weekly podcast to stay up to date. The hosts are honest and funny, and have worked in the White House before so they bring a trusted perspective of how a typical presidency should run. Above all, they are optimistic that democracy is not dead and they discuss tangible things we can do as citizens to help people in need right now.
Brown Bear Car Wash.
I love a clean car and I also love washing my car myself. However, sometimes I just don’t feel like busting out the hose, the scrubbies, and the step stool at home. Enter: Brown Bear Car Wash! They have a slick self-serve car wash system with hoses, brushes, and eco-friendly cleaning detergents. If you prefer a tunnel car wash, they have that too. Bonus: August 23rd is Free Car Wash Day!
