Five Faves 10-12-18 — Five things I’ve been consuming or enjoying this week.
The Last 90 Days Challenge was created by Rachel Hollis, author of Girl Wash Your Face. Essentially, the goal is to not waste the last three months of the year, when most people have abandoned their New Year’s resolutions.
I have never found the last three months of the year to be difficult — it’s the start of the academic year so I’m usually pretty amped after summer. Anyway, I never miss a chance to check boxes for completing goals. The “Five Ways to Thrive” are below and I use this model to share some of my favorite things from the past week.
Wake up an hour earlier and use this time for yourself
I love nothing more than a good morning routine. My current routine: alarm around 5:15, snooze for 9 minutes, wake up and check texts and email in bed for ~10 minutes, put on workout clothes, brush my teeth, make coffee and oatmeal with raspberries, light a candle, eat while reading a book, download a podcast, and head downstairs to workout.
Workout at least 30 minutes a day
I’m currently following a Crewe Fitness workout plan that a friend sent me. It’s been fun to follow the same routine week over week and get back into lifting heavier (something I took a break from over the summer). Also, my in-laws sent me these awesome resistance bands for my birthday, which were one of the few things my home gym was missing!
Drink half your body weight in ounces of water
Nothing exciting to report here. I have to go to the bathroom a lot more often.
Give up one food category
Honestly, I don’t really eat or drink too much of any one thing, and life’s too short to have ZERO of anything. My goal here was to either add veggies to a meal OR drink no alcohol. If I do either of those, I’ll call it a successful day. Relatedly, I recently discovered and love the Quinoa Cowboy veggies burgers from Trader Joe’s.
Write down 10 things you are grateful for
I have found that most days I just want to write the same dang things as the day before. While I think it’s a good thing that certain things keep coming to mind, I usually force myself to spend more time and think about what *else* I’m grateful for. What i’m most grateful for right now? Fall colors.
