Why I Love Breakfast

This is not a post about why, as a girl in her late 20’s, I love brunch.  Brunch is a completely different beast.  I enjoy a mimosa and eggs benedict as much as the next person, but what I’m talking about here is a good, old fashioned, homemade breakfast.  Why do I love it?

Top 10 favorite breakfasts (in no particular order)

  1. Buttermilk pancakes (w/ homemade syrup)
  2. Homemade english muffins
  3. Klub
  4. Crepes
  5. Fried egg sandwich
  6. Oatmeal with brown sugar (maybe strawberries on top)
  7. Grits and eggs
  8. Dutch baby
  9. French toast
  10. Buckwheat pancakes
  11. Bonus: Tortilla/Hashbrown/Egg scramble

I inherited the love of breakfast from my mom, who I think inherited it from her mom, Grandma Holm.  My mom made breakfast for herself and four kids almost every morning (hot breakfasts), which in hindsight is just astounding.  I’m thankful for both that and the delicious recipes that have been handed down (if you want any recipes, let me know!)

p.s. I was inspired to write this post on a Saturday morning after whipping myself up an amazing dutch baby.  This is the recipe I use, making sure to follow the suggestions from review #1 (gooddealmeg).  I’m not sure that the “warming of the eggs beforehand” does anything, but I love the vanilla instead of nutmeg, and the extra 5 minutes of cook time has done wonders.  I also don’t have a cast iron pan, but using a round cake pan has always worked for me.
